Hey! I’m Sawyer Cameron.
Here you can see my projects and qualifications.
Who Am I
Hi, I’m Sawyer Cameron, a senior at Ventura High School and the Director of Information Technology at The Cougar Press.
Cars have always been my biggest passion, and my goal is to race in Spec Miata one day. I’ve logged over 100 races at K1 Speed, done track days in my 96’ Miata, and spent hours sim racing, which led me to start building and modifying parts for myself.
That hands-on work pulled me into manufacturing. I taught myself 3D modeling and printing, picked up welding and fabrication, and started repairing and customizing iPod Classics, which grew into a small business.
I love the process of designing something, making it, and refining it until it works exactly how I want. I plan to study Manufacturing Engineering, then pursue a master’s at Purdue focused on automotive engineering, combining the two things I care about most: building things and cars.
Featured Project: Miata Gas Cap Holder
Every time I filled up my Miata, I had nowhere to put the gas cap, so I designed a 3D-printed holder to keep it secure.
I sold a few of V1, a simple version without magnets, at a local car meet. V2 added magnets, and I sold all 10 through Instagram DMs, which pushed me to build my own store.
V3 brought a rounder shape, stronger magnets, and carbon fiber in the design. Every unit sold out across a December preorder and January restock.
Three versions taught me how small design changes make a big difference, and showed me I want to design and manufacture things for a living.
